Gora Brewery & Grill

A great respite to enjoy a cool one and some eats after a long day of travel. We thought this was just a local craft brewery with some pub eats but we were mistaken. Award winning draft beer, excellent sushi bar with Chef Nobu menu collaboration eats. Super friendly staff (Tomohiko took great care of us), and nice ambiance. Note: This is a resort area with many high end ryokan-onsen facilities. Nothing but the excellent public transportation and water in the vending machines is cheap here. Two beers, ceviche, and gyoza...$50.00. Worth every cent and we will be back Gora Brewery!

Truly remarkable! Not just a brewery, not just restaurant; a haven, where cooking is a honed craft and the brews rival those of SoCal. Also, they have a 500 yen foot onsen and beers to-go! A must experience for those travel in and around the Hakone region!

Great service and food experience, I couldn't see any fault with a place like this.Excellent atmosphere, and even with a fair few people rolling in later on in the night, It was still not too noisy and great place to eat and drink.Can't go past a Wagyu beef Gyoza, I would even get two if your a person that likes a big entree.The entire food experience from entree to desert was phenomenal, we went for the tiramisu for desert, and a mixture of mains from California roll to Salads, Fish cakes and Sashimi with Jalapeños.They have English and Japanese speaking waiters which makes it a little easier for international travellers.

Wonderful experience - a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere and decoration. Food and service were superb also. We were a large group (about 20) and were very accommodating. Highly recommended!

Prize winning beer, amazing food, and a beautiful atmosphere. The waiters can speak both English & Japanese. The menu's are also in both languages. One thing I did not know about this place before going was that it was owned by the world famous "Nobu". Overall this a nice high class restaurant so prepare your wallets and enjoy!!

Great little hidden place up in the Gora hills, less than a ten minute walk from Gora station. Food is very tasty, big portions, high quality ingredients. Beer menu is limited to four but the IPA and Blonde Ale were excellent. Staff are very friendly and speak good English too.

We stumbled upon this spot just as they opened for dinner and we were not disappointed. We were seated at the long table and were able to watch the chefs create their dishes in front of us. It was wonderful to watch how much love and care they put into every dish they prepare. It is a relatively small restaurant so I would imagine reservations would usually be required. The food was delicious, as was the wine and beer. It wasn't cheap, but it was the best meal we had whilst in Japan.

Delicious food. A little more than we were expecting to spend, but it was worth it. The staff were lovely and happy to chat with us in English. The chicken grilled over coal was excellent. The fresh edamame beans we awesome. So much better than the frozen ones we get at home. I thought that the green tea was a bit expensive at 800 yen. If I was back in Hakone I'm the future I would definitely visit again.

Great happy hour deal for the craft beer and sake. If you have any interest in Japanese sake, I highly recommend trying the "Junmai Daiginjo" (I prefer cold to hot sake), which was only 500 yen for a glass (see photo). The "Rising Sun IPA" was by far my favorite beer here, but the "Kuroobi Stout" was good, too. I don't recommend the "Urushi Pale Ale" or "Hakone Kohaku" since they lacked flavor (too light and bitter for me).Also, the food was really good, but you're paying for quality. I wouldn't come here for food unless you're okay spending a little extra money for quality food. I had the Burdock chips and Shishito peppers (both very good), but a little pricey. The atmosphere is great, and I would definitely come back.

Great food and beer. The setting of the restaurant is stunning, the glass window looking out onto the garden behind the chefs is worth seeing on its own. Service was also very friendly!

Amazing food , service and beer, you will not get this anywhere else in the world. Food cooked in front of you with amazing skill and care, you can't help but to just watch the chefs make a culinary delight in impressive surroundings, if you are in Hakone do not miss out on this hidden gem. One of the best restaurants/brewery I have ever had the pleasure of sitting in. A true five-star place, Thank you!!!

This place is a gem. Super modern and brand new feel in a town where majority of the restaurants are very old. This brewery has four Japanese beers on tap and this American approves! Wheat, Ale, Stout and IPA! There is a huge bar overlooking a manicured garden. The waiters were very attentive. The music, early 90s American Classics (No Diggity, No Doubt!) was one of my favorite things. The menu had a lot of variety- sushi, steak, fish, chicken. We chose the set Chefs menu- wagyu beef was the main course. Everything came out perfectly timed and was delicious.

Great find! Stumbled upon this place while exploring the area. The menu is by chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, ordered the omakase(chefs selection) menu, it was delicious! Definitely pricier than other places in the area, but well worth it.

The view is relaxing as you sit in the bar and get served beautiful dishes by the three guys behind the counter. Can really recommend the sashimi, sushi, gyoza and tuna/avocado-salad. Also the beers are great - we especially enjoyed the IPA.

While we were initially very impressed by the creative menu and atmosphere, for the exorbitant price we paid we received very poor service (and they even charged a service charge which is not typical for Japan and a consumption tax). We ordered several delicious appetizers (ceviche and mushrooms) as well as the wagyu beef and lamb chops. The wagyu beef was over cooked, which was a disappointment for 9,500¥. However, the most striking part of the dinner was the fact that the service was practically non-existent. All of our dishes were left on the table throughout the meal, we didn’t get any entree plates, and we needed to ask for utensils. After the main course, dessert was delivered with all the other plates still on the table, steak knives and bones included (see picture). We noticed all the other tables in the restaurant were similarly unattended. Considering the meal was 32,000¥ ($320) for 5 people we were expecting much better service and food.

I have been here to have a beer and a cuckroach was crawling on the counter where other guests were eating. I can understand this might happen, but while the waiter immediately apologized, the Japanese chef, once informed, did not say anything about (probably to keep a low profile?). In other "high end" restaurants they would at least offered the drink I was having (since I did not have anything else). I had the impression that the restaurant pretends to be high level (to justify the high prices) but I had the impression that no real substance was behind the "facade". For sure I won't eat here after tonight, but if you are after a nice craft beer, then it might be a good choice, even though pricey.

Not worth it at all. It is very expensive for the quality and experience they provide. They call themselves a brewery and only serve 4 beers. The potatoes in "Fish and chips" are frozen potatoes done in a fryer. The cooks look like they hate life and work here as slaves when preparing food. The grilled seafood plate for two we ordered was soaked in oil and the amount of rice we ordered in addition was very small for the 500 JPY. We paid 87 USD for two people (we had fish and chips as appetizer, grilled seafood for two as main dish with a side of rice and two beers) which wouldn't be that much if the whole experience was a lot better.

Absolutely incredible restaurant and food. One enormous glass wall of the interior behind the chef faces onto a beautiful garden making a beautiful backdrop. We had truffled edamame, grilled shitake mushrooms, wagyu gyōza, chefs selection sashimi, dry miso salad and toro rolls. Everything was incredible. Definitely make a reservation if you're going to be in Gora for dinner it was a fantastic experience and meal. Watching chef Koh prepare the sashimi and sushi was a delight. We wished we had a second night to go back to try their craft beer and more food.

Everything was amazing. Good beer. Great ambience. And even better food. Chef makes food infront of you with a rock garden background. Great service. More expensive than you would imagine a typically brewery to be, but it was well worth it.

Awesome place with excellent beer made at the restaurant and a great selection of food. We dined Izakaya-style by ordering different smaller dishes from the appetizer list. Huge fans of their gyozas and ther take on Karaage.

Excellent food and service, lovely place

Looks great and nice to have seating in front of the chefs. However we were rushed in and out, which I have never experienced except in non-Japanese train station restaurants. I think for food would be good, although nobu nearby seems to offer a better quality for same price perhaps.If you want to drop in for a beer this place is a great choice. But maybe not within 20-30 minutes of closing or you may get rushed.Overall a great choice for a few local craft beer options. However other local restaurants seem to go the extra-mile for a better price.EDIT**Returned the next day and had food also. When going with lot’s of time to spare, the experience was much better. Service was efficient and sitting in front of the cooking team was a great experience. I recommend sitting on the right of the cooking station (and personally Kohaku and Rising Sun are nice local beer options).Very good food and price is appropriate.

This place was delicious! A little on the pricey side, but they had some less expensive items too. The staff was so nice and very accommodating. I have a gluten allergy and they were so good about knowing what I could and could not eat. There were lots of options for me! I would eat here again if I’m ever in town in the future!

Very surprising visit as it felt like the whole of Hakone, especially Gora is a ghost town. Might be because of the increase of volcano activity 500m further up the mountain.The restuarant itself was very modern and the enormous glass windows looking out on the garden made it stand out from all other restuarant visits I have had in Japan the last 10 days. Food and service was very good! The same can be said about the award winning local brewed Kohaku beer

This isnt you're regular brewery. This is a fine dining establishment. The prices are reflect that.That said it was delicious and a great experience

It got rather smokey inside and pricey, but otherwise AMAZING!! DELICIOUS food (worth the price in my opinion), fantastic service, clean, lovely looking restaurant inside and great for sharing some glorious meals with friends! Beer tasting options available too and given I can only do gluten free food, the meat was worth it!!!

Visited over lunch during happy hour - 1 - 4 pm on a weekday. Well worth the 500yen for a beer, the wheat beer and IPA were particular stand outs. Had a very small snack meal of the shitake mushrooms and shishito peppers - each dish was amazingly well cooked and well worth the climb to vosit the location. Dined with a vegetarian and managed to have a great snack there, would be excited to see how fantastic the meat comes out at dinner. Location is outstanding with large timber tables and open kitchen, along with a beautiful garden vista. Would highly recommend

If you are going to the cable cars to see the sights, stop here for Japanese microbrew beer and delicious food. We had the spicy salmon with crunchy rice, sashimi bowl, grilled tuna and sake for lunch. About 100 usd to give you and idea. Great place! View of the bar and landscape behind it is awesome.Also just do it; wash your feet in the hot spring in front!

A NOBU restaurant and brewery, the location is subtle and remote, atmosphere is relaxed and mellow. The staff is friendly and English is understood. The beer is unusually good for japan. And The food ordered was cooked perfectly and brought out quickly. No complaints will return!

Such an amazing place to eat (and drink 🍻)All the chefs are masters of their craft and it's highly recommended to get a front row seat to watch them at work! We were amazed!The IPA 🍻 is delicious and happy hour is from 13:00 ~ 16:00... The local sake 🍶 is also delicious.Anything you get from the menu will be a treat for your taste buds. The hardest thing is deciding what dish to eat!

An amazing restaurant! Beautiful open dining area and a bar area with seating that overlooks a garden while the chef's prepare food. We had few different glasses of beer and they all were delicious. Ordered a few smaller plates to share and they were all great. By far the best was the Wagyu Gyozas! Could have had 20 of them they were so good. Overall such a nice time and watching the chef's expert knife work and plating presentation was a great time.

Amazing food and beer!! It is pricey but worth it for the quality of the food, it's really fantastic, beautiful food. You can watch the chefs cook the food and you see how every dish is cooked and plated with amazing care and talent. English menu available. Staff were friendly and helpful. A few reviews have commented that the service was poor but I have noticed throughout Japan it seems if you are ready to order you should call the waiter/waitress over ie they do not seem to automatically come over. This would be rude in some western countries but seems the norm in Japan. Similarly you go up to the counter to pay, not get the cheque brought to your table where you leave the money. Probably because tipping isn't standard here but if you go up to pay at the counter you won't have any problems! I thought the service, considering this, was good. All in all a wonderful dining experience worth every cent.

We visited 2 nights back. We originally wanted to go to Itoh nearby for steak and dinner costs easily 7000++Â¥ per person. So we changed plans and came to Gora Brewery & Grill in the evening. Prices were significantly lower than Itoh (and they are by the same company I think) but food is still amazing. It is easy to order in English here. Service is good and guests were offered hot towels promptly after seated and the interior has good ambience. The sausages were succulent and the chicken sausage has a Japanese twist to it: shio leaves added to the juicy chicken sausage gives it a surprising local flavour. All mains come in portion for 2. The special pork main for 2 was delicious and we thought it was perfectly grilled. The chefs cook before a lovely backdrop of a garden and the entrance of this grill has foot bath for guests!

I love this place the atmosphere is super chill the food is incredible. We had the wagyu beef and the wagyu gyoza! The award winning beer is also delicious!! Highly recommend!! The view is also really spectacular!!!

Wonderful and quiet restaurant. The beer is not bad. Very strong malt flavor. The food portion might look small, yet it is filling. The pork is perfect!

Great dinner place with nice local taps.You can enjoy freash award-winning beer from GORA BREWERY here. Food is also nice, and you can see how they cook them in front of you.They have a English menu with pictures. Seems many customers address from foreign countries.There is a car park in the middle of Hill. Be careful that a car park in front of the venue is for another facility.Accepts credit card payment.

Great place to dine in Hakone! A bit pricey but the food was great. The fresh fish and big sized portions of the main dishes were good.

Oké, so we ordered the Wagyu Beef T-Bone Steak. These guys set a new standard for us! We never have tasted wagyu like we did here. It was superb, fantastic, good, over the top tasteful. The food was excellent, the beer was good, the scenery was good. If your nearby and in a search for a good meal......go to Gora Brewery and Grill and try it yourself.

Simply amazing... Really good food and great ambiance. Definitely worth it!

Our first meal during our relaxing trip to Hakone. This restaurant was great from the service to the food to the amazing decor! The staff are courteous and speak English well. English menus are available online and at the restaurant. The bar set up feels open yet personal. Lots of natural light makes drinking a beer here feel heavenly. The atmosphere is calm and fellow guests are quiet. The beer on tap are exquisite. The food is upscale comfort food that won’t break the bank. The dessert was definitely a highlight of our meal. I can heartily recommend coming for a meal and a drink here if you’re looking to fill out your meals between onsen-ryokan offerings.

What a surprise! I had no big expectations when I walked in.mwily becauseit was next to my hotel in Gora. The staff was very welcoming. The menu offers many smaller dishes and only a few mains (which are all for 2 people to share). So I ordered a few things from the starters menu: the gyoza with wagyu beef and the wagyu starter plus some edamame. Sitting at the counter I could see it being prepared. All dishes were absolutely amazing and decent portions for s starter. Not a cheap option but worth it. I will be back!

I ate salmon with avocado and cucumber with a sesame dressing which was really delicious, and drank a housebrewed beer Can only recommend. It is not too cheap though.

Fantastic food! Had the asparagus and snow crab as well as the sashimi and a few others from the menu. Best food we've had so far in Japan! The staff was super friendly and entertaining. The environment is upscale and inviting. Would highly recommend.
